The 4th International Antonín Dvo?ák Composition Competition will be held at the Prague Conservatory in the Czech Republic from July 21 ~ July 29, 2013. This competition was founded in order to extol the great accomplishments of the composer Antonín Dvo?ák, and to discover and raise-up young, talented composers who can carry on the historical musical legacy. The composition committee intends to support the selected composers’ continued development by providing composition commissions, as well as recording and performance opportunities. 2013 Atlantic Music Festival Fellowship Opportunity

The Atlantic Music Festival announces its call for entries for the Fellowship Program applicants. Submission forms can be completed directly online at the official Atlantic Music Festival website.

AMF Fellowship provides complete financial coverage of tuition, housing, and meals during the four weeks of residency. The program offers gifted young artists opportunities to perform and collaborate with artist-faculty members as resident artists of the Atlantic Music Festival.

The early submission deadline to submit for the U.S. and International applicants is December 1, 2012.

MODART13 Call for Proposals

A New Zealand young composer will again being given the opportunity to participate in MODART13, to be held in early 2013. MODART is the Song Company’s biennial young composer forum – see

The Song Company, based in Australia, is recognised as one of the most innovative vocal ensembles around the world, winner of the 2008 Myer Performing Arts Award and consistently acclaimed for its virtuosity, versatility, innovative programming and breath of repertoire. The opportunity to collaborate with the ensemble delivers new insight in the possibilities of the human voice, vocal texture, word-music relationship and the dynamics of a positive collaborative process.

Actively supported by the Australian Music Centre and ABC Classic FM, the project gives young composers the opportunity to develop a new vocal work in close collaboration with the singers of the ensemble and their director, Roland Peelman. CANZ will be selecting the NZ participant, who will join five emerging composers from Australia, and two others from China and Malaysia.

The MODART13 process will involve three stages:
1) Three to four days of initial workshops in Sydney – early to mid-February 2013
2) An education component in collaboration with MLC School Burwood during late July 2013
3) Final week of rehearsals and public performance recorded by ABC Classic FM

All selected composers have to be available to attend the first stage of development in Sydney and attend as much as possible of the final process.

Applicants need to be under the age of 32. Submit your proposal, including
• 100-word description of an idea for a new vocal a cappella work of 5 to 8 minutes duration (please note that a ready-made choral work is not considered suitable)
• An example of an existing score or work in any genre, form, instrumentation or arrangement, preferably recent and representative of current work
• One-page biography and photograph

Call for Scores: 3 Shades of Black

Hello artistic creative genuises,

We are 3 Shades black (may I stress that we were named before the book 50 shades of grey) an ensemble of trained orchestral musicians from Melbourne and Auckland who love to play free improvisation and aleatoric music.

We want to make new art music enjoyable, fun and accessible to anyone.

Our next project is for the Auckland Fringe Festival Feb 22nd 2013 at Mt Eden Community Centre Hall. Wooot!

We are calling for moving scores to be submitted by artists and/or composers. Here are the details
We need short (eg. anything from 20sec -7 mins) lengths of film or other moving visual art to be interpreted.

They are to be read as if they were a graphic score – we would interpret it using part or all of our ensemble performance instructions (however specific) can be given if desired.

We will perform anything local that we are given, provided the content is not offensive to people of any age.

One artist is able to contribute more than one work.

Works should be purpose made for this project.

Any favourites may also be performed at the Adelaide fringe festival and subsequent fringe festival showings of this project.

We will publicize the event and the artists for the fringe festival and would like a 30 word bio included with the entry to help us do this.

We have quite a few films from when we performed this project in Melbourne but would really love more local content to represent NZ.

Instrumentation is expected to include subsets from:
Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, (Brass and Percussion tbc)

The Mizzou New Music Initiative is excited to announce the Fourth Annual
Mizzou International Composers Festival (formerly Mizzou New Music Summer Festival), July 21 – 27, 2013 on the campus of the University of Missouri. Eight composers from around the world will be selected through a portfolio application process to compose a work to be performed by the internationally acclaimed new music ensemble, Alarm Will Sound. Composers will take part in discussions and masterclasses
with Augusta Read Thomas, Mead Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1997 through 2006 , and Daniel Kellogg, recipient of a Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; take part in workshops
with Alarm Will Sound and receive a professional live recording of the premiere performance of their work.

Applicants selected as resident composers for the festival will be expected to compose a work for Alarm Will Sound’s complete instrumentation lasting up to 8 minutes in duration. Each selected resident composer must submit professionally prepared scores (2) and parts of their work by May 1, 2013. Due to rehearsal/technical
demands we will not be able to program works that include electronics.

Festival tuition, room, and board for each selected composer will be provided through the generous contributions of the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation. Selected composers will need to pay for transportation to and from Columbia, MO.

Upcoming Deadlines for the 2012 Solo Harp Composition Contest

Online application form, short bio, PDF of anonymous score are due on October 30, 2012. MP3 recording of submitted work played by a harpist is due on November 30, 2012. No digital or midi recordings will be accepted. The winning composition announced on January 30, 2013.
