CANZ 2024 year in review!
What a year! Wishing health and happiness to all of you, we can’t wait to catch up in the new year!
This year we:
1. Celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a lovely birthday celebration in Wellington
2. Collaborated with the NZSO to deliver a special orchestra CANZ Composers Workshop (kudos Keith Moss and Fergus Fry!)
3. Attended the ISCM Festival in the Faroe Islands (works by Jesse Austin-Stewart and Victoria Kelly, Fergus Fry as NZ delegate)
4. Saw many of you at our AGM in Auckland
5. Published 6 incredible Canzonettas (curated by Joshua Pearson)
6. Facilitated a cultural exchange with the Japanese Federation of Composers, where Horomona Horo brought taonga puoro to Japan for the very first time!
7. Collaborated with APRA on the inaugural SongHubs
8. Enjoyed local composer meetups in Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Auckland!
Behind the scenes we have also:
1. Welcomed Mahina Kingi-Kaui in the newly established kaiārahi Māori role
2. Worked with SOUNZ to digitise archival Canzona publications
3. Continued working on resources, including an updated fees scale and guidelines for working with living composers
4. Strengthened local and international relationships, including with ensembles, associations, and unions; and across Asia, Europe, and the Americas
5. Collaborated with SOUNZ on the Composers Advisory Panel and for selection of the Composer Sessions
6. Facilitated calls for works, recommendations of NZ works to performing ensembles, provided musical, administrative, and cultural consultancy, and supported our members through letters of recommendation
7. Furthered the publication and availability of Canzonettas internationally

We can't wait to see what next year has in store!
