CANZ Conference: call for scores/works

We now welcome submissions of scores or work proposals for the Conference concert. CANZ members are invited to submit an existing work or a new 'microscore' for consideration for the Conference concert.

Pieces may be for no more than five performers, and no longer than 12 minutes in duration. The  following performers will be available:

  • flute/clarinet/guitar/piano/violin/viola/cello

Works with instrumentation beyond this list may also be considered—please get in touch to discuss. Electroacoustic work and pieces with live electronic components are welcome.

It is intended that the concert will feature a range of pieces reflecting current compositional practice. The following criteria will also be applied:

  • Preference will be given to pieces written since 2020, although older works of particular significance may be considered.

  • We will also positively consider pieces that illustrate an aspect of a conference paper.

Works will be selected by the convener in consultation with relevant performers. Please note that only a limited selection of submitted works are able be programmed.

Microscores

CANZ members may submit one ‘microscore’ for consideration for the Conference concert. A selection of these scores will be presented as brackets within the Conference concert. Microscores may be for no more than five performers, from the instrumentation listed above, and no longer than 30” in duration. Please note that only a representative selection of submitted works will be programmed.

Submission Procedures

Pieces should be submitted via email. Please provide scores or other documents in PDF format. For non-scored work, please supply material as appropriate. Dropbox links (or similar) are preferable for large files.

Please send submissions, or questions, to samuel.holloway@aut.ac.nz.

Score / Work Submission Deadline: Friday 18 July 2025
